Job Description: The Lead Support Mentor is responsible for providing essential support to young adults (YA) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. This role involves learning about service users to meet their needs during sessions, completing documentation, ensuring safeguarding, and mentoring volunteers. The Lead Support Mentor also contributes to case studies and facilitates the smooth running of the sessions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support YAs by learning about their individual needs and providing tailored assistance.
  • Complete required forms for service users’ progress, health and safety, safeguarding, and monitoring.
  • Demonstrate the role and tasks to volunteers, offering on-the-job mentoring.
  • Ensure the safeguarding and safety of YAs.
  • Assist YAs in completing monitoring forms.
  • Set up and tidy spaces before and after sessions.
  • Delegate tasks and work using your own initiative.
  • Contribute to case study information and track service user progress.
  • Stay up-to-date with legislation changes relevant to the service.

Job Specifications:

  • Essential:
    • Minimum 1 year of experience working with young adults with SEND.
    • Familiarity with smartphones and tablets.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Clean DBS check.
    • Willingness to learn and practice new skills.
    • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to diverse service user needs.
    • Commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, and supporting clients’ goals.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in a similar role or leadership position.
    • Knowledge of SEND communication tools (e.g., Makaton, Talking Mats).
    • Experience with monitoring processes and documentation.
